The Desert Mountain Sangha is a lay-led Zen Buddhist Meditation group. The Sangha is non-affiliated, however, the meditation practice is in the tradition of the Diamond Sangha founded by the late Roshi Robert Aitken. The Sangha was formed to facilitate a means to practice Zen meditation. All persons wanting to participate in an hour long Zen meditation, followed by an optional, half-hour session of sutra chanting are welcome. The Sangha currently meets at a Yoga Center in Central Phoenix AZ.
We are WRITERS who believe in the ART and the CRAFT of poetry. We acknowledge there is a time to be solitary and a time to bring our work to the light and to audience. We are interested in reading and publishing and finding larger audiences as well. We share new work, giving and recieving helpful feedback from colleagues. We ask for honest helpful critisism and an acknowledgement of standards. By gathering we strive to create community and opportunities for performance and publication.
Silent meditation, mid-week in mid-town Phoenix. All meditation styles and traditions, as well as no-style and no-tradition all welcome. Sit in the silent company of others and leave at ease. Venue is a yoga studio with zafu (round, flattish) cushions available onsite. Cool nights we often have a fire in the fireplace. If interested, you can hear about and discuss ways to deepen your practice. Come share the silence with us, an island of peace in a busy week !
